Trinity Lutheran Church, Murdock NE was founded in 1892 as a member congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
As our name indicates, we worship the Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – and proclaim Him as the only true God who is our Creator, our Redeemer, and our Sanctifier. We believe that the Father sent His Son in love to die on the cross, rise bodily from the dead on the third day, and ascend to save the world, and that He gives the Holy Spirit that all might trust Jesus Christ, the Son of God, for their salvation.
We are a confessionally Lutheran congregation, adhering to the confession of the Christian faith as it is presented in the Lutheran Book of Concord (1580). We believe that these confessions faithfully summarize and present the teaching of the Bible (Holy Scripture) concerning God, man, and our salvation in Jesus Christ.
We are a congregation that uses the worship forms of the western catholic tradition as they have come down to us through the Lutheran Reformation in hymns, rites, and ceremonies. These forms of worship have been tested over the centuries and link us to the early church of the apostles. They also unite the generations in prayer, praise, and thanksgiving, providing a living tradition that can be handed down to our children and their children.
We believe that the purpose of the divine service is to receive the gifts of salvation which Jesus Christ has won for us by hearing His Word in the preaching of the gospel and absolution, in receiving baptism and eating and drinking His Body and Blood with the bread and wine in the Lord's Supper, and to offer God our prayer, praise, and thanksgiving for His blessings of life and salvation. We do not believe that the divine service is for entertainment or emotional manipulation but rather to be served by the Lord Jesus Himself (Lk 22). We believe that every baptized believer in Christ is a priest in Christ’s holy and royal priesthood, bringing the gifts of Christ into the world, doing God’s goodness and mercy for others in the love of Jesus Christ so that all may know the only true God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – and may enjoy a personal faith relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ, our Lord.
We fully confess that we are saved by God’s grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ alone without any works on our part. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we live before God by faith and before our neighbor and fellow man by love.
We welcome all people as fellow sinners for whom our Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross to save, rose from the dead to justify, and ascended to the Father to glorify. We invite all people to come to the water of baptism and be joined to Christ in faith, hear His Word and after instruction and through confirmation receive the Supper of His Body and Blood. In addition, by the Holy Spirit, live the life of Christ in the world as His priests, declaring the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9-10).
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the hame of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always to the end of the age (Matthew 28:19-20).
